This presentation will explore the connection between trauma and addiction and how this information can be used to inform Phases 1 and 2 of the EMDR therapy process. The common resourcing needs of this population will be reviewed along with ways to meet those needs with group EMDR Therapy. Several group resources will be described and practiced during the presentation.

Course Description

Individuals who struggle with addictive disorders often have complex trauma histories. Treatment for this population is often offered in organizations that may have to contend with time and staffing limitations. Group work has traditionally been an integral part of addiction treatment and can be used to address both clinical and administrative needs. This presentation will explore the connection between trauma and addiction and how this information can be used to inform Phases 1 and 2 of the EMDR therapy process. Then, the common resourcing needs of this population will be reviewed along with ways to meet some of those needs with group EMDR Therapy.

Hope Payson LCSW, LADC

Hope Payson LCSW, LADC has over 30 years of experience as a clinician in a variety of settings. Hope currently assists private and non-profit organizations throughout the US and internationally in creating trauma informed systems of care. Among her areas of expertise are working with clients with histories of intergenerational trauma, incarceration, and financial hardship.

Hope
presents at conferences on topics ranging from EMDR, complex trauma, addiction, and ways to promote both individual and systemic recovery. She is the co-producer of the film "Uprooting Addiction" Healing From the Ground Up", and authored a chapter of the book “EMDR and Group Therapy: Emerging Principals and Protocols to Treat Trauma and
 Beyond".

Certificates are awarded online after completion of the workshop. To receive your EMDRIA credits complete the entire course and complete the post-test, then print your certificate. For CE credits, participants print their own certificate after registering at CE-Classes.com, entering a keycode, and completing an evaluation form. Click here to know more.
