About

Trauma Recovery, EMDR Humanitarian Assistance Programs (Trauma Recovery/HAP) is increasing the use of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapies to treat trauma victims worldwide by expanding access to EMDR trained professionals.

Trauma Recovery/ HAP trains and supports mental health professionals through SAMHSA approved EMDR and specialty workshops and the formation of active, community-based networks of trauma recovery professionals, or Trauma Recovery Networks (TRNs).

Trauma Recovery/HAP began in 1995 as a direct response to the Oklahoma City bombing. In the wake of this tragedy, approximately 100 volunteer EMDR clinicians were rotated in to provide pro bono treatment for victims and front-line responders. The overwhelmingly positive feedback led to the establishment of a 501(c)(3) organization.

Founded by Dr. Francine Shapiro, PhD, the developer of EMDR therapy, Trauma Recovery/HAP is part of her legacy and her passion to guide healing through EMDR therapy so that those affected could fully recover. This commitment to healing remains the cornerstone of our organization's work.
