Course Description

What if we could combine the healing powers of trauma-informed yoga & EMDR therapy to help children of all ages? In this presentation, participants will learn how to integrate components of trauma-informed yoga into the 8 phases of EMDR. Therapist will learn how the two approaches can be complimentary and holistic offerings for children to process and heal from trauma in their minds, bodies & hearts.

The session begins with introductions, providing an overview of my story and outlining the goals for the course. We explore developmental considerations, followed by a mindful yoga break to center and refocus. The discussion continues with strategies for preparing children through yoga and feelings games, including a kid-friendly explanation of EMDR. Additional topics include techniques like "Getting Kids Prepared" and "Chakras for Kids."

Participants will listen to a child-guided Light Stream exercise designed specifically for kids. The session then moves into Phase 3: Activating Targets, covering child-friendly standard protocol activities, how to achieve the seven components of Phase 3, and using child-friendly SUD (Subjective Units of Distress) and VOC (Validity of Cognition) scales. Storytelling techniques tailored for young children are also introduced.

  • Phase 4 begins, transitioning into practical exercises and demonstrations.


The session concludes with another mindful yoga break to wrap up and reflect on the tools
learned throughout the course.
This session starts off with Phase 4: Discharging the Stress-Utilizing child-friendly bilateral stimulation techniques such as eye movements, tactile methods, and audio to help release stress. Then moves into Phase 5: Strengthening the Positive Guide children in identifying positive thoughts and creating mindful mantras, reinforcing resilience through self-talk exercises. Phase 6: Increasing Body AwarenessTeaching children to recognize body sensations through games and psychoeducation, linking past traumas to physical feelings. Caregivers are involved to enhance shared understandingPhase 7: Finishing and Ending.

ing children and caregivers for post-EMDR sessions with simple explanations and guidance to support progress between sessions. The last phase covered is Phase 8: Reviewing and Revisingusing engaging activities to review and reinforce progress, ensuring children feel confident and supported moving forward.
We go into Part 2: Child-Friendly 8 Limbs of Yoga just before taking a Mindful Yoga BreakWe end with Self Care, Part 3: Putting EMDR & Yoga together and Close with an EMDR-Inspired Yoga Session.

Certificates are awarded online after completion of the workshop. To receive your EMDRIA credits complete the entire course and complete the post-test, then print your certificate.
